COLUMBIA, Md.- The Columbia Association athletic club has started using "green bikes" that generate power and reduce the facility's carbon footprint.

Each cycle in the spinning room is connected to an electric generator, and a flat screen television shows how much power the class generates. Class cycles can generate about 3.6 megawatts of electricity a year - enough to light 70 homes for a month.
