To celebrate the 90th anniversary of
the gift of the 3,000 trees to the people of Washington, D.C., 90 cherry blossom trees were planted at 45 elementary schools
throughout the nation's capital.
"It is our hope that the trees will become living reminders to the
children of the importance of friendship and cooperation between diverse
peoples," said NCBF Executive Director Diana Mayhew. She added Barnard
was chosen for a tree planting because the students "have enthusiastically embraced the spirit of the original
gift."
