The Sakura Matsuri, a day-long street
festival, celebrated its 41st
year April 6. The festival attracts about 40,000 visitors annually. It was held
on 12th Street at the Federal Triangle Metro,
between Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues.
Performing arts
groups from the United State and Japan were on hand, and artisans and workshops
introduced traditional
and contemporary arts. In addition, martial arts were demonstrated, traditional
Japanese food was sold, and children found storytelling, origami and
calligraphy to keep them busy.
