"I just like crazy signs and
memorabilia," says Puschert, who
received the Elvis statue as a gift from his longtime companion, Harriette
Smith.
One day in 2001 she borrowed Puschert’s Bronco but refused to tell him why she
needed it. She soon returned after realizing that the King wouldn't fit into
the Bronco and drove away in Puschert's pick-up truck. "She was coming down
the highway, and people were giving her the thumbs-up," he says.
Since then, the figure often attracts a crowd. "I had women sit out there for 20 minutes and cry," he
says. "It's the
darnedest thing ever."
