The zoo
can barely keep up with all the visitors who want to see the pandas. Each
day the zoo receives anywhere from 6,000 to 33,000 visitors, with more
people coming on weekends, says spokesman Mike Morgan. Zoo officials
believe the pandas are responsible for attracting many of those visitors. When the
panda exhibit
opened Jan. 10, 2001, the zoo began monitoring the number of people
who entered the panda house. Its one millionth
visitor, a 6-year-old boy, passed through the exhibit May 3.
