You can call it Cole Field House or the William P. Cole Student Activities
Building, like it says on its brick front. Or, if you've watched the games and often pass it by, just "Cole" will do.
After a 47-year-run, the facility is being replaced by the
state-of-the-art Comcast Center. So visitors who wander inside may find silent hallways
and a ghostly quiet court, still lined with patient, bright red seats.
But in years past, when basketball
came to campus, it shot straight for Cole.
Men's games would trail crowds of more than
15,000 fans, some rabid, some painted, all pushing to be let in through
the narrow doors into the waiting field house.
