Leaving Cole Field House, 1955-2002

The 1957-58 team is honored at half-time.

"Miss Ya Cole"

--from a hand-held sign at Cole's last game

During Cole's last men's basketball game on March 3, in front of a sellout crowd, two teams from the 1950s were honored at half-time:  the 1955-56 team--the first to play in the field house--and the 1957-58 team--the first to play in the NCAA tournament.

After the game ended, Maryland players from all five decades looked on as their court was symbolically turned over to the student body, with the passing of a basketball. Former players at the last game included Tom and brother Jay McMillen, Adrian Branch, Len Elmore, Larry Gibson, Tim O'Brien, Albert King, Buck Williams and Ernie Graham.

Cole's doors will still be open for campus activities--under the watchful eyes of mascot Testudo.

Former players were honored at Cole's last game, including No. 30, Tom Young, who played on the 1957-58 team.

Testudo keeps watch over Cole's entrance.
